Welcome to SLT Matters North East

Debbie Annis, Owner & Principal SLT

I am a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapist with over 15 years experience working with adults with acquired communication, speech, language and swallowing disorders throughout the North East of England.

I am a registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Independent Practice (ASLTIP) and am registered with Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), as well as the Information Commissioner's  Office (Data protection act). I also have fully enhanced DBS clearance.

I currently work part time in the NHS in a community setting with individuals with complex communication and swallowing impairments, as a result of acquired neurological changes, and have a vast range of experience with all types of speech, language and communication changes in adults over 16 years of age.

I am incredibly passionate about working with people who have communication difficulties and strive to help service users achieve their goals

Specialist services

I have a particular interest and expertise in working with individuals with complex speech and/or language difficulties.

I have specialist knowledge and skills in the following areas: -

  • post-stroke communication rehabilitation, including aphasia management and intervention
  • motor speech disorders, including dysarthria and apraxia, as a result of stroke and progressive neurological conditions (e.g. MND, MS)
  • progressive aphasia and language and cognitive-communication changes as a result of organic brain changes (including dementia)

I can also provide specialist, tailored communication and swallowing (dysphagia) training to individuals, small or large groups as a training package

Assessment & Intervention

All therapy sessions are delivered in your own home and are specifically tailored to the needs and goals of the individual.

Training sessions can be arranged in various locations, as required.

Full assessment is always carried out prior to deciding whether or not SLT intervention is indicated and appropriate. Once this is decided then a detailed quote, alongside terms and conditions of the intervention block will be provided before therapy starts.

What next?

When you contact me you will be offered a free telephone consultation so I can get a clear picture of the kind of support or service you require. You will be asked some questions to enable me to see whether or not I can help and whether input is appropriate. This will include information about when an initial assessment could take place and the fees charged for both assessments and subsequent therapy sessions.
